The baby quilt is finished and popped in the mail today. It should be with baby Jaden by Christmas! I decided to try this freeform quilt on my borrowed machine. I couldn't find a walker foot so had to slowly machine quilt and then add the border on by hand. I upscaled the look by using transparent thread and quilting in the ditches. The blanket is cuddly, useable, washable and darling! I love thinking of Jaden using this quilt but I'm sad it won't be sitting around my house for me to hold & adore.

I loved the Lizzy House fabric that I purchased and wanted to showcase it with bold solid swatches. We did an alternating swatch form - freehanded the numbers with a little help from my math genius son. We did alternating long/short rows and alternated materials. The color scheme is a very eye catching green, blue, orange combo. My oldest son picked the orange border color and we agree with his choice. It brought all the colors together and balanced out the greens & blues. It also contrasted beautifully with the flannel back. It isn't obvious in the photos, but the back is a blue flannel with little dots of color which exactly match the front colors. Quite a find since I didn't buy the materials together. I love it when colors come together in a project.

This is a close-up of the quilting lines on the back of the blanket. I quilted in the "ditch" so the lines would run straight with the frontside pattern. I took Jen's advice and used the transparent thread (which I started calling invisible thread as I struggled to thread the machine's needle time and time again!). The transparent thread leaves no color or marking - you only see the tracks where the blanket is quilted together. The thread is very finicky to use and is often frustrating but gives you the most polished, finished quilting. I enjoyed looking at it when it was done.

Welcome Sweet Baby Jaden!

OH, how cute! I gotta have some babies so you can make things for them! =)
Knitting Nature by Norah Gaughan. I got it at the library and it made me think of you. The patterns are GORGEOUS. A little too intricate for me to get into at this point--I'd have to think the whole time I was knitting--but absolutely beautiful.
so cute! it makes me want to make one! :)
beautiful!! I love the colors…they are bright and fun without being baby-ish. that thread is certainly finicky…but it just seems there are times that you need the thread to disappear. I finished quilt number 2 last week…and sent it off to my mom's without taking any pics of the finished product. Not sure where my brain was that day…guess I'd better get busy working on another one so I can take pictures.
