Last Friday night we hosted a Dinner Party & Wine Pairing. It was a little crazy since my husband just returned from Europe the day before the party - but we shopped, cleaned, and cooked all day to get ready in time. Three couples joined us for the evening. Here is the pairing menu I created:
Appetizer: Cranberries, almonds & cheese two ways:
Pastry crust filled with dried cranberries, almonds & melted brie (with honey)
Spinich salad with cranberries, almonds and feta cheese with poppy dressing
Wines served with this course: Chardonnay (white) and CoHo Red (Red - one of our favorite NY wines)
Main course: Meat two ways with bulgar wheat & asparagus
Lemon chicken slow cooked in the crockpot (one of our favorite dishes)
Spicy beef ribs slow cooked in Country Sweet sauce (sweet & spicy sauce - a Rochester original sauce)
Wines served with this course: Risling (white) and Shiraz (Red)
Dessert: gingerbread cake served with poached pears and whipped cream
The pears were poached in a delicious Merlot wine & spices and were INCREDIBLE!
Wine served with this course: Merlot (same as I used to poach the pears)
We also served some good Christmas Blend Starbucks coffee to top off the evening (with a dollup of the whipped cream!)
The couples stayed till almost 11 and we washed dished till midnight! It was a wonderful evening deepening our friendships and creating new friendships. It was a delightful day of cooking & decorating. And the wine was perfect.
May your special holiday meals be this enjoyable. Happy Holiday Cooking!
