Is it alright to comment on something I know I"m getting for Christmas and I'm so excited I'm almost giddy? My brother doesn't read this blog so I won't blow my cover giving you knitters this little pre-holiday peek.
I"m buying presents for my brother to give to the family so he doesn't have to ship them from Seattle. I love a couple yarn shops in Seattle and decided to come up with a yarn order he'd have to get at one of the shops there. So my mind was on the project & high end yarn prowl...a dangerous pastime!
I fell IN LOVE - giddy kind of LOVE - with the Candy Strips Krchief by Kat Coyle which was originally publishes in Interweave Knit Gifts, 2007 and recently highlighted by Knitting Daily. The colors & shaping & whimsey of this thing made me want to knit it AS IS from the photo. Never happens around here.
But I couldn't track down the yarn they used - online or in shops. Seems the angora blend they used is hard to locate. So then I had to find an angora blend that was somewhat affordable (6 skeins total) and in colors I want.
I looked online and found the Sublime yarn had the fiber content I wanted and possible colors -so tracked them down to a yarn store I've visited once back in the summer. They had exactly what I wanted - slightly different colors than the photo - but colors that are so very me.
So my brother will foot the bill for the yarn. I'll wrap it up and act surprised and will be entirely thrilled and cuddle with the skeins while we open the rest of our gifts. (I'll wait till after Christmas to publish photos of this enticing yarn).
I downloaded the pattern today just to read through it and have everything ready to cast on Christmas afternoon...and the picture on the pattern is EVEN MORE WONDERFUL than the little one posted on this blog. The "arms" of this thing are thin and windy and have flappy little tassles and look like some wonderful cross between French couture and Dr Seuss. I'm more enthralled - and had to write about it.
I'm looking forward to what's under the tree for me this year! Sublime on my mind!
