One of the best features of this house is the front porch. We hit the best end of the summer sale and scored two white rockers for half price! I sanded and painted an abandoned stool to use as our porch table - and it feels great. There is always a breeze due to the pine trees in front and it's a very peaceful spot to sit and read & talk with my husband & drink coffee. We're some of the only Americans you'll see actually sitting on their porch daily..it's a place we love to be.

This is one of my favorite "views". Yes, I know there's a basketball hoop in the middle of my great view! It's the view I have when I sit on my porch rockers and drink my coffee. There are 3 HUGE pine trees that bring shade and the best sound of wind whistling through their branches. I love hearing their sound and seeing their huge green arms on this side of our house. They also make a great backdrop to the basketball court, since wild balls go into the grass and not into the street in front.

One of the hardest parts of this transition on my husband was the loss of his garden. He'd worked on composting & soil for over 7 years and had a gardener's delight - productive soil and beds. When we came back in August he started working on the flower beds in the yard with all his pent-up gardener's frustration. The beds were overgrown and terrible - so it's taken a lot of work to bring them into some form. We just laid newspaper & over 12 bags of mulch - so it should be in a better condition come Spring. This photo is of the flower bed on our septic system. The urn covers the septic cover and the "box" hides our meter & functional aspects of a leach field system.

This is the new deck we added this summer. We just stained it in a Teak stain and I love the final color. We haven't decided about railings or awnings yet. I expect it will stay this way until Spring when we have a better idea what our future holds.

If you're standing on the new back deck, this is the view you see. We have a long lot with woods at the back and an empty, second lot next to us. We joke that our back yard looks like a golf course. It looks great when all the grass is cut. The back deck has a wonderful view of stars at night due to the lack of street lights or city lights. A beautiful, quiet starry place to sit in the evening.
