Go Dog, Go
It's finally finished! My goal was to knit a dog that looks like the red dog in the beloved children's book, "Go Dog, Go" My boys LOVED that book and read it multiple times a day when they were little. I adapted Debbie Bliss' Rabbit pattern to make an elongated dog that looks like the ones in the book. We chose the red dog, of course! A favorite of all my boys.
I don't have my knitting notes with me (already packed for the move next week) but will post photos and let the details follow once I have them unpacked. I know it was from Debbie Bliss' book, "Baby Knits" and I used Debbie Bliss Super Cashmerino yarn in red and yellow. This is the second time I've knit (and slightly adapted) this pattern - and it is a delight to work with. I also love the feel of this yarn. I'd love to sleep with this dog myself - snuggly but with enough structure to hold it's own shape. And the softest ears you ever sat and fingered!
This picture is a little blurry but you can see the red dogs in the book as a comparison. We elongated the "rabbit" body to look like a dog, added a floppy, single layer ear and stuffed it a little more "doggy" than plump rabbit. I knit a yellow collar and sewed it to the neck both to add structure to the neck, supporting the larger head and keeping it in place to be safer for the toddler loving this dog. I didn't add the black medal on the collar for that reason - so red dog with yellow collar.
My friend who makes dolls helped with the face. We shaped the head so it resembled the ones in the books a little more. We added face freckles and a white/black large eye design. It looks a lot like the dogs in the book!
