Strawberry Patch

As you can see by the removal of the counter that had been ominously ticking down on this blog, we made it to the states last week. A family of 6 with 12 suitcases, 6 carry-ons, a cello and a dog. What a sight we made at the airport! We're settling in and starting to participate in the life of this New England village.

A friend called and invited us to the first day of U-Pick at our local strawberry patch. A nice breakfast and then off to the patch with 2 of my children. The sun had dried up all the plants & field - so we had clean, dry picking. What a fun way to jump in to local life in our new neighborhood!

These strawberries are of the Honeoye variety and are said to be dark red all the way through and are sweet to eat. My daughter ate several in the middle of the patch just to verify this claim and she agrees, "they're sweet!"

The final haul was 11 quarts. We left the patch with happy hearts, dreaming of all the strawberry recipes we want to try this week. (Footnote: I made a spinich salad with strawberries, feta cheese and toasted almonds for lunch...now on to strawberry desserts!)
