Baby Shower

One of my dearest friends is expecting her first child and we are so THRILLED we were able to share in her excitement during her recent visit to NY. I hosted a baby shower for her baby, Lucy Paige. Since Mom is a huge crafter & DIY kind of girl, it was a home made shower with flair. I enlisted the help of another crafty friend and we got busy! Our theme was Sweetie Pie and we had a luncheon (soups & salads) with a lovely pie selection for dessert. We used Pie Pennants as our banners throughout the two rooms at my home and used individual pies as party favors. A great theme if you want to use it for a shower or party.

One of the things I want to RAVE about are these cute blocks I bought over at our favorite Etsy shop. You can send them the name of the child and how dark you want the blocks stained - and they mail you the sweetest little blocks in a little linen drawstring bag. The backside of each block has the same letters in reverse sizing (capital or lower case). You can use them as delightful centerpieces and then give them as a shower gift for Mom to take home. They would be great as both a room decoration or as a play toy. I just loved them!

This was our favor table. We continued with our Pie Pennant/Banner theme by making a half sized pennant for the front of the table. A smaller pennant hung from the window sill. So cute!

Since our shower theme was "Sweetie Pie" we ate pie at the shower and we sent each woman home with a pie as a favor. These are easily put together. Use half pint Ball jars. Press pie dough onto the sides of jars, going all the way up to the glass rim. Fill the jar with your filling (we did cherry & apple pies) and then top with a little circle of crust to cover the top. Using your finger or a fork press the edges of the top against the side of the jar so it closes. Vent the top with a cute little cutout design - and screw on the metal lid. These can be frozen and given out as gifts or favors for any occasion.

When you are ready to bake your pie: take FROM THE FREEZER, remove the metal lid and pop into a 350 degree oven for about an hour for the pie to thaw & bake. Then you have a little personal sized pie!

We gave them as a favor and asked our guests to keep the pies in their feezers at home until they hear the good news of Lucy's safe arrival and then to pop them in the oven and have a pie to celebrate her birth!

I know of a friend who is single and made several of these so she can have the smell and taste of homemade baked pie - but without having to eat an entire pie herself. Great idea.

This is a close up of the banner/bunting that was made out of the Japanese masking tape. The tape comes in these colors & design and was cut and stuck together over the ribbon in order to make this tiny banner. Delightful in miniature!

I knit this blanket for Lucy using the colors of her nursery: grey, orange & pink. I designed a pattern based on a Trinity Prayer Scarf (wider and longer than the original pattern). It had reverse cables that mirrored each other on each side. That way there was no "front" or "back" or even "top" or "bottom" to the blanket. Any side & any direction look great! A joy to knit and it blocked up like soft lace. A great project for me from design to blocking!
