Beach Book Review: Knits Men Want

Stopped at the library on our way to the beach this week. Yep, I was the girl in the New Arrivals section in her beach cover-up dress and sunglasses trying to check out ASAP before someone recognized me and I'd have to lamely say, "We're on our way to the beach". Obviously!

So I snapped up a new release of Knits Men Want: The 10 Rules Every Woman Should Know Before Knitting for a Man (plus the only 10 patterns she'll ever need). It's written by Bruce Weinstein and photographed by one of my favorites, Jared Flood of Brooklyn Tweed fame. It cracks me up that he says the same 10 rules that applies to knitting for men apply to dating or having a relationship with a man. He calls it a knitting & relationship how-to all in one book. He has a great men -vs- women comparison list, how to measure and size for a man, how to select yarns based on how "hot" a man's natural temp is and great pattern modifications for size & preferences. Nothing to fancy or over the top - in fact, over the top and cute are two things he avoids at all costs in this book. Good patterns.

Have to mention Jared Flood's photos. All you'd expect them to be from him. You see the yarn in it's best light, the stitches clear and the guys rugged but normal in their poses. Another great job by him.

I don't know if I'm casting on for a man's project anytime soon but it was a great hour read at the beach. I highly recommend scoping it out at your local library for the read & the patterns.

Hey, thanks for the kind words about my new book. I hope you do try a guy's project from my collection - even if you make it for yourself! So many women have told me that they're making the henley for themselves. Enjoy the rest of the summer!
