New Blog Look

Working on the blog is a sure sign that I've had my first morning at the new house with a shred of sanity! Last night I was folding HUGE mountains of clean clothes and looked over at the yarn trunk (yes the stash fills a trunk!) and wanted to get out my bag & project I was working on before this crazy 3 month house project started. I haven't even picked up a knitting needle or plugged in my sewing machine in that long. A sure sign of the enormity of the work we just put into this place. But last night I started thinking about yarn and today I wanted to get something on the blog to let you know I"m still alive and almost knitting.

I wanted to add a comment about the Americana background on the blog. I don't consider myself being overly patriotic given that I've lived in Europe for 20 years. I'm proud to be an American but don't have a flag bumper sticker on either of my vehicles. However, I've moved into a sweet American village - one formed in the heydey of the train & erie canal river boat expansions. I love this almost hundred year old house I now call home. What a piece of Victorian Americana I'm sleeping in every night.

The Memorial Day parade marched right by our house on Martha St this Monday morning. It was touching to see the high school bands, volunteer fire & ambulance auxillaries, boy & girl scouts with some Brownies thrown in for good measure, and then the long line of veterans from this area. A sweet parade and a moment with real meaning.

I'm also looking forward to July 4th this year. It will be my first holiday to celebrate in Rochester with some of our new friends. We traditionally go to Chicago for July 4th and that has been put off in favor of a family reunion later in the month. My parents have planned most of our other holidays this year, working to do all the things they wanted with my kids in the one year they knew they had with them. So they're on a trip and we're able to plan our own holiday!

Our July 4th will include new friends, basketball & games for the boys, swimming for the girls and a good board game for the adults. Mix in a little grilling & eating and it sounds like my kind of day. I'm looking forward to it.

So I'm trying out the patriotic wallpaper on the blog for the month. Feeling settled and looking forward to some things. A nice change for me.

Hope you had a good Memorial Day and are looking forward to friends & food on the 4th!
