Sorry I haven't been on the blog lately. We bought a house! The closing was on Monday, which started one of the busiest weeks of our lives. My kids were on Spring Break and we had some friends from California come for a visit. So 8 mouths to feed 3 meals a day in the midst of working, picking paint colors and ordering bathroom tiles. It was loud and noisy and wonderful but also stressful, tiring and overwhelming.
We bought a beautiful Victorian home built in 1912 in our village. It has the best hardwood, stained glass, staircase and front porch. However, one room was destroyed by the previous owner priming & painting over the hardwoods. We decided to strip it down to wood again. We attempted it using a more natural product in some attempt to be kind to our bodies and the environment. However, it wasn't cutting it. So we pulled out the metal cans of toxic waste. Yep, special breathing masks, goggles and hazardous waste gloves. Awful irony that we resorted to toxic waste on Earth Day.
Toxic waste is beginning to work - but it is a slow and agonizingly physical job. We've been working about 3 hours a day in the room - about the time our bodies begin to collapse from exhaustion and chemical fumes. There is progress but not as much as you'd want for multiple days of exhausting work.
Will get photos and post some soon. Our friend left today. Kids go back to school on Monday. I have a huge week of teaching and seeing clients at my office (need to make money to pay for these metal cans of toxic waste at $30 per can!). I'm dreaming of a couple hours a day at the house working before or after work. Maybe finishing up the wood project and moving on to some fun painting of walls.
