I have to write about a delightful book I checked out of the library this week (Shameless plug for the public library system - hurrah for your library!)
A big little life is a book written by bestselling author Dean Koontz about his life with his wife Gerta and their beloved dog, Trixie. Sounds a lot like the set up of Marley & Me. It is Marleyesque in feel but a completely different read. Mostly because Dean and Gerda Koontz are two of the biggest beavers you've ever read about. And Trixie is a female golden retriever who worked for 3 years as a canine companion before being unable to serve to due a leg injury. So two wealthy, articulate, regimented adults take an intelligent, service trained, lovable female dog - and express it beautifully in a big little life. It's like the opposite of Marley - but just as heart-warming and loveable.
One of my favorite posts involved Trixie and the floatation device in the pool, her daily walks of "necessity" and the playing in the hallway scene. I won't elaborate in case you want to read it for yourself. A great Christmas gift for any dog loving readers in your life. Worth grabbing up when you see it on the "New Arrivals" shelf at your local library.

Our dog is very sick right now, and it sure makes you realize how important they are to you.
