Our Living Room

This is the view of our living room. We've worked hard to get this into shape since we're having company and anticipating tons more in September - so we need our kitchen & living spaces to be beautiful & functional. The couches were given to us and are practical pieces - but not the prettiest. We sanded & painted the bookshelf we were given to help it fit into this room. That is the brown & blue rug from Ikea that we shipped in our stuff. It looks great in this room and feels like "home' to me.

This gives you the view of the other side of the room. This room used to be an outdoor porch that has since been enclosed, so the kitchen "window sill" is still visible into the living room. It adds light and space to the kitchen so I love having the view into the living room. However, it took up quite a bit of wall space and left room only for a low bookshelf and our colored ribbon ottomans. We were given the tv for a year and are enjoying watching Disney shows, Cash Cab and Eureka. We have windows on three walls and it brings great light into the room at almost anytime of the day.

This seating area is on the side of the sliding doors and is nestled by the door leading to our basement. We bought the chair & ottoman to add some color to the room and a comfortable reading place. The ladder bookcase will be organized when I open the rest of our books - but some things are on it for now. Yes, there is a metal Eifel Tower on the wall - the other wall will have a framed arrangement of some of our favorite pieces of art photography from Paris. Fun to have a little piece of our recent family history hanging on the wall. (You know I'm going to have to figure out a way to put some lights on it so we can get our own twinkling Tour Eifel)

This clock is another accent piece we bought to liven up the room. We have our huge Ikea clock in the kitchen and it's been adored by all our guests so far. So we brought the clock theme into this room as well. This clock is huge and has some great "pocket watch" features on it. It brings the front & back of the house together and adds a fun touch to the room. (It also allows me to set time limits on the Wii and the kid's have no excuse if they go overtime!)
