Books

As you can see by the ominous clock ticking in the sidebar, the days are few until we leave Europe. My last week was filled with some painful but sweet goodbyes to very dear friends. We jumped headlong into packing a truck and sending the last of our boxes. Emotional and physical exhaustion! So today I planned to work on the computer and do all the "stuff" that needs to be finished before we sell our computer this weekend. In the middle of work and details came 3 great book related delights:

One of my projects was to get ipods loaded and ready for travel - songs, playlists, and audio books ready. I've saved Audible credits in anticipation, but just started "browsing the shelves" today to see what seemed interesting to me in this current season.

The first audiobook is Jane Austen's Charlotte: A fragment of her last novel.
Here is the promo blurb: In completing Jane Austen's last novel, Julia Barrett has emerged with a literary treasure, holding true to the characters and theme designed by Ms. Austen. Set in the developing seaside town of Sanditon, it portrays a young woman from the countryside who is exposed to the sophistication and cynicism of resort life. Her name is Charlotte. With disarming charm and wit, she observes for us the array of quirky characters who reside in the booming resort-to-be.

The innocent but keen-witted Charlotte quickly finds herself rather deeply involved in this uproarious little town. She can't help but get swept up in the antics of the Parkers and Denhams, even while she is vexed and perplexed by the droll Sidney Parker. But even the best efforts of this charming young lady may not be enough to save the budding resort town.

I'll let you know how I like it when I listen. Been re-cycling my Miss Austen books recently so glad to hear something new.

Secondly, I've been made aware of an artist named Elizabeth Berg through a friend's blog. She's been writing forever. She's just new to my bookshelf. So I'm looking through her selection to see if one will tempt my ears in the upcoming days. Any Berg suggestions?!

Okay, the final book delight was an idea I have for me to write a book. I used to have these smashing ideas quite frequently until the well ran dry a couple years ago. But today a full blown book idea popped into my head. I can't give it all away now since it's perking on the back burner - but it involves a picture/memory book for my children and some of their hand written letters to the tooth fairy as plot markers. Could be a sweet family treasure as well as a dip into the writing pool. Win - Win

Okay, enough hanging out with you online today. Back to work. Packing done. Details getting crossed off the list. And a little inspiration starting to come. Hope the same is true for you.
