New Yarns

What a beautiful yarn. I"m completely enthralled with the colorway and texture. Details first: It is Lorna's Laces, Hand-dyed yarn, in color 308 entitled "Huron".

I ordered it online (Plug for Jimmy Beans Wool) and expected it to be finished when my husband was in the states this Fall, However, hand-dyeing can be a timely process, so it wasn't delived until after he came back to Europe. I had it sent to my parent's house so it would be waiting for me when I arrived. I landed in NY after 26 hours of traveling and was so tired my ears were ringing and my cheekbones hurt - but I opened my Jimmy Beans box that night before ever going to bed. Oh the colors! I immediately knew this was a yarn that looked like me! More than I hoped from the small color chip and the online reviews.

Once I held it (100% superwash wool) I knew it was to be a project for me in the middle of this huge life transition. But what? A morning at Barnes and Nobles with a Cinnamon Dolce latte and a stack of yarn books (read: great coffee and every knitting book from the knitting section hauled over to the cafe table) led me to believe it would be some type of scarf or wrap. However, two balls suddenly didn't seem enough. Remembering the huge wait for shipment in the Fall I knew ordering another couple balls wouldn't happen in my short trip, so was working on adjusting patterns to fit the incredible yarn in my possession.

While in Seattle I spent a great hour in Churchmouse Yarns. I recommend a visit if you're in the Seattle area and can catch a ferry to the island. If not, go online and enjoy a little bit of their wonderful yarn life. Anyway, at this little treasure of a store I found an odd basket next to the Noro yarn showcase (impressive, by the way) and in this little basket were TWO BALLS OF HURON. Yep, already dyed to my colorway and sitting there waiting for me. It was a sign! This was meant to be knit! So I spent my mad yarn money on two more balls of Huron and went back to my patterns with my total of 900 yards of gorgeous hand-dyed yarn...perfect!

Back in the fall before I knew which colorway I'd like or what this yarn would feel like in person, I ordered two balls of another colorway just in case the green/blue of Huron didn't match my mental image. The second is gorgeous as well and deserves it's moment of fame:

This is the second colorway - also Lorna's Laces, Hand-Dyed Yarns - in color "k" entitled Amy's Vintage Office. The colors are a beautiful mix of blue & brown and are screaming out some type of hat or fingerless glove to me...we'll have to see what becomes of Miss Amy's Office when it meets my needles. Beautiful yarn to dream about...
