Sunny Sunday
I'm an odd duck in my mountain town - I'm a non-skiier living in the middle of a ski town. I learned as a child and went on family ski trips until my little wooden skis bent upward at their tips. But as an adult, I don't ski. I enjoy the idea of snow and the reality of snow for a sentimental christmas holiday - and then I want it to melt. My two years of grad school in California suited me perfectly. I could drive to snow if the mood struck but otherwise lived in Sun year round.
All that to say that this odd duck is FED UP with daily snowfall. Shoveling multiple times a day. Layers of clothes. Kids needing ANOTHER pair of gloves because they've worn out their first pair of the season. It seems to be lasting a little too long this year.
I read the Spring knitting patterns, see pictures of little yellow things beginning to pop out of people's yards, see photos of sun & sweaters worn outdoors. It causes me to yell at my mountain backdrop in frustration: "Why do I live HERE?"
Until today. The sun came out. First sun in a very long time. The temps went above freezing and snow began to drip and melt a little. My kids all went outdoors (in shirtsleeves because it was "so hot" at 35 degrees)
I stood on my balcony coffee in hand and listened to the icicles melt. I absorbed some sun into my winter bones. I sat down on my cushy chair and put my feet up on the ottomon and noticed that it was covered in SUN. So I whipped off the socks and shoes and enjoyed a little "sunshine on my feet like it's July and I'm outside in flip flops kind of feeling". By the time I finish this post the sun is gone. Darkness and dropping temps are upon us again.
But for 10 minutes today in my chair I tricked myself into experiencing Spring!
