Happy Valentine's Day

I had a beautiful, sweet Valentine's Day and wanted to share some highlights with you:

Valentine's Day started earlier this week when my husband bought me these flowers. We didn't anticipate how much snow was about to descend upon us...so the burst of bright colors and Spring flowers were a little spot of sunshine in our room.

I brought back Valentine themed M&Ms from my trip to the states last month. I put them in our kitchen "bird bowl" - meaning they are open for public consumption this weekend. However, these had a condition: You had to say Happy Valentine's Day to eat 3 M&Ms and I love you to eat 3 more. The bowl is emptying slower than usual - and there is a lot of love flying around our kitchen.

My oldest son is being baptized at church today. Being the foodie mother that I am, I told him I'd cook any meal & dessert he'd like to celebrate this decision of public faith. He chose lasagne made with "meat and no spinich" and NY cheesecake with fresh strawberries. FRESH strawberries in Europe in the middle of February? (I was shopping in the middle of a blizzard, by the way!) Luckily I found some strawberries from Spain (another reason to love Spain) that are gorgeous and came in little plastic heart-shaped boxes that said "Valentine's Passion". I paid the equivalent of bus fare to Spain to buy two heart shaped boxes of perfect strawberries - but will enjoy every bite on my cheesecake!

One of nature's Valentine's presents to all of us on our mountain was a huge dump of snow. It's been snowing hard & steady since Thursday. Feet of new snow. We shoveled 5 times on Valentine's day...and needed to go out again this morning. The movie theater was crowded on V's Day because couples were trying to get in out of the weather for the evening. One of those nights where you drive home and it feels like you're the only ones alive on the planet...if this is a planet. It feels a little like we finished the movie, took the highway, and exited onto the moon!
