One of my favorite things about living in Europe is the bedding. Seriously, it might be the physical item that has sustained our happy marriage for 17 years! The greatest thing about European bedding is that you can each have whatever weight blanket you choose (weight is code for thick and warm!). Added to this great feat of marital bliss is the fact that you can put whatever cover/top sheet on that blanket that you choose (this is code for "I can sleep in flannel while you still enjoy summer cotton")
For temperature dis-harmonious couples such as us, this is the ultimate in compromise and negotiation. I can sleep under a huge, thick, warm blanket decked out in flannel and he can sleep under a fluffy afghan with cotton sheets - and we both are warm and comfy in our winter bed.
Europeans understand the finer points of long-term marriage satisfaction!
